The test does not explore the respondent’s current emotional state but asks about recurring triggers of stress. The scales for assessment of subjective stress attempt to elicit an exact description of various environments in the areas that are perceived as stressful. The test is used in personnel psychology and clinical neuropsychology.

The following main variables are scored:
- Workload: Measure of subjectively experienced professional workload.
- Dissatisfaction with work: The level of subjectively experienced dissatisfaction with work.
- Stressful working atmosphere: The level of stress associated with colleagues in the workplace that is experienced.
- Insufficient recovery: Measure of the respondent’s recovery ability.
